Consult the mark scheme

This is my biggest tip for Biology! It really helped me to maximise my marks, and hit the marking points. Attempt past paper questions, use the mark scheme to correct your answers and take the time to understand what each question is looking for. You will notice the common patterns of questions, as well as the points the mark scheme will accept/reject.

A technically correct answer will not get you the mark in Biology if it’s not on the mark scheme unfortunately!

Learn your content

Sadly, there is no getting round this. You have to spend time doing this. It’s vital that you commit certain information to memory, such as the components of blood, functions of different organs or characteristics of living organisms. These are just a few examples out of many others. Using acronyms are often a useful way to help with this process. 

Keep your revision active

In addition to completing past paper questions and marking them thoroughly, create your own flashcards, try writing everything down from memory about a topic or explaining a topic to someone. This will really help you identify whether you actually know the content. Quizlet is often a useful resource. Don’t waste time reading notes! It’s an easy strategy to use, and can make you falsely believe that you actually understand the content.
