GCSE Maths
I outline my top three tips for succeeding in Maths below.
Practice, practice, practice…
I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but it’s extremely important to reiterate. Take a past paper, attempt a handful of questions, mark the questions thoroughly using the mark scheme, identify which topics you are weaker on and refer to your textbook/class notes to help understand your mistakes and repeat…

Keep going through past paper questions until you can’t get a question type wrong. Use the mark scheme to see what is expected of you.
Don’t throw away easy marks
Make sure you are confident in rounding your answers to a set number of decimal places or significant figures. Being unable to do this will drop you several marks across your papers! Not including units is also a common pitfall. I know it’s much easier said than done, but make sure you attempt every question and read the question properly before starting!
Make use of the formulae sheet provided in the exam
A formulae sheet will be provided for summer 2026 examinations. Don’t waste precious time learning anything that will be given to you anyway!
