GCSE Latin
I outline my top three tips for succeeding in Latin below.
Know your vocabulary
Be sure to learn the defined vocabulary list from the exam board! These are very easy marks to pick up. If you don't know what the words mean, you won't have any chance in working out what the sentence means (even if you are aware of the grammer).
Make use of the top tips sheet
This sheet contains a list of common pitfalls that students make. The exam board like to test these, so it's important you are aware of these.
For example, consilium can be translated as either plan or advice. However, you need to think about which one fits in the context. You will drop a mark if you choose the wrong one.
Go through lots of translations
Working your way through a variety of translations will help to identify your strengths or weaknesses. For example, this may prompt you to revise purpose clauses.
If you can successfully translate a Latin sentence, you should be fine with the comprehension aspect (provided that you give the correct part).
